A WORCESTER boxer has progressed to the Midlands Semi-Finals of the National Youth Development Championships.
Worcester City Amateur Boxing Club entered Alfie Butler, aged 16, into the National Youth Development Championships.
With 12 entrants in Butler's weight category, it proved to be a busy weekend of boxing
On Saturday, September 23, Alfie boxed against Taylor Bick from Burton ABC, with his coaches Alfie Butler Sr (his father) and Harry Butler (his uncle) in his corner.
During the bout, Butler was able to maintain the centre of the ring, pressuring Bick and landing clean, crisp straight punches which awarded him a win by unanimous decision.
After the win, Butler had 24 hours to rest before he was back in the ring on Sunday, September 24.
In his second bout, he faced Michael Edmonds of Hi-Tech Amateur Boxing Club. Butler stuck to his father's instructions and landed crisp straight shots, mixing them up with shots to the body.
The judges awarded him the win by a unanimous decision.
Alfie Butler Sr, who was once a National Junior Finalist himself, said: " He listened to everything he was told and delivered. I am a very proud dad."
Alfie Butler, who has been boxing for four years, now enters the Midlands Semi-Finals of the National Youth Development Championships on Saturday, September 30.
