WORCESTER City's run in the FA Cup is over for another year as they were defeated at home.
The Blue and Whites welcomed Leek Town to Claines Lane in the second qualifying round of the World's oldest competition on Saturday, (September 16).
And it was the visitors who left triumphant and will now be looking forward to the next round.
City battled hard against Leek who are established at the level above City.
There was though an early chance for City's Belmonte, his strike from the edge of the box deflecting over for a corner.
On 26 minutes Leek had a chance but it was a high and wide. Minutes later the visitors had hit the bar, only for the referee to whistle for a push in the back.
City breathed a sigh of relief on 34 minutes as Leek had a curled right-footed shot which looked like it was destined for the top corner, only for it to clip the top of the net.
And there was more good fortune before half time as a free header from a Leek free kick crashed down off the underside of crossbar with the follow-up header going over.
After play resumed in the second half Belmonte had another chance only for his shot to be deflected over for a corner.
City's resistance was finally broken in the 64th minute as Leek were awarded a penalty after Tom Carr was fouled in the box.
Dan Trickett-Smith stepped up and sent City's goalkeeper, Whitcombe, the wrong way to put the Blues one up.
And the hopes of City fans in the crowd of 720 were extinguished in the 79th minute as Leek doubled their lead.
Leek's striker, Stevenson, won a battle for the ball and confidently finished past Whitcombe as he rushed out.
City substitute Izak Reid had a late chance to get his side back in the tie as he rolled a challenge and unleashed a shot that looked goalbound.
But Leek's keeper tipped it over with an impressive flying save.
Leek thought they had made it 3-0 in stoppage time only for Harrison’s header was ruled out for offside.
As the final whistle blew it was a sad event to a six-game winning run for City - a run pre-match boss Chris Cornes had said he was looking for his side to keep going.
For Leek they will now have eyes on the draw for the Third Qualifying Round taking place on Monday lunchtime.
