HEAD coach Alan Richardson said his side lacked their usual fight and spirit in Sunday's miserable nine-wicket defeat to rivals Warwickshire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. 

The Rapids had won three of their opening four games in the 50-over competition prior to Sunday's meeting with Warwickshire, but they were brought back down to earth with a significant thud in front of a sell-out crowd at New Road. 

The hosts were bowled out for 108, with Matthew Waite (44) the only Rapids player to score over 11 runs.

Warwickshire then lost just one wicket on their way to what was a comprehensive victory, with former Worcestershire man Ed Barnard taking 3-14 with the ball and scoring 65 not-out.

"I’d like us to have shown a little bit more fight and a little bit more spirit which has been in abundance this year, and we didn’t quite have that today and that was the most disappointing thing for me," said Richardson.

"They bowled well, and it felt like every time we nicked one, it went to hand, but we’ve got more in the tank certainly.

"One of those games in terms of, as things might have gone our way on Thursday they didn’t quite go our way today, so we have to pick ourselves up and make sure we are ready for the game on Wednesday.

"In terms of performance, we will be looking for a huge upturn. If we perform well, then we will have a chance to win the game which we didn’t have today."

As Richardson said, the Rapids are back in action on Thursday when they make the trip to Nottinghamshire Steelbacks. They currently sit fourth in the Group B standings with three wins and two defeats.
