THE weather continues to hamper the start of the cricket season but the Worcestershire County League did see some games played across the county.
In the matches that were played in the Premier Division, Pershore CC 1st beat Droitwich Spa CC 1st XI by seven wickets at the Bottoms thanks to a gritty second innings half century from Liam Ridings (52*).
Last season’s Champions Stourport-on-Severn CC 1st XI had their new arrival Kester Charlemagne (128) to thank as he smashed a first innings century to help his new team go second as they posted too many for promoted Worcester Nomads.
An excellent opening stand between Rob West (76) and Jake Browning (72) helped visiting Astwood Bank CC 1st XI beat Stourbridge CC 1st XI at the War Memorial Ground and finally Old Elizabethans 1st XI got the better of Old Hill 1st.
Into Division One and Owen Morgan (58) scored a first innings half century to help steer Herefordshire outfit Burghill, Tillington & Weobley 1st XI to a first innings total that Halesowen 2nd XI failed to chase and Hagley 1st XI made the trip to Lower Park and walked away with a fifty-two run win against Bewdley 1st XI.
In Division Two, Chad Brandrick (4-17) helped Himley 2nd XI maintain their one hundred per cent record as they secured their second win of the season at Cookley with a comfortable nine-wicket win and Enville 1st XI matched them when they dismissed visiting Bredon 1st XI for a low second innings total.
In other matches, Bartestree & Lugwardine 1st XI beat Kidderminster 2nd XI and Netherton 1st XI beat local rivals Oldswinford 1st XI by three runs in a tense affair at Highbridge Road to gain their first wins of the season.
Just two results in Division Three. Barnards Green 2nd XI beat Stourbridge 2nd XI by six wickets at North End Lane. A result that helps Barnards Green 2nd XI to the top of the table with two wins from two. Whilst in the only other match to be played, Peter Hawk (68*) and Jon Hawk (50*) helped Belbroughton 1st XI to their first win of the season.
In Division Four, Stourport-on-Severn 2nd XI went top after Michael Pratt (81) scored a first innings half century to help his team to their second win of the season against Worcester Nomads 2nd XI and Claverley 1st XI and Harborne 4th XI recorded a tie in a high scoring game at the Knots Ground.
After all six matches were cancelled last week Division Five faired slightly better this week as three matches produced positive results.
Colwall 2nd XI sit joint top after beating Stourbridge 3rd XI by nine wickets at Stowe Lane, Droitwich Spa 2nd XI are in second place level on points with the leaders after beating Pershore 2nd XI by seven wickets and the remaining member of the trio sitting on twenty five points at the top are Hagley 2nd XI who beat Bewdley 2nd XI.
In the two Division Six matches, Claverley 2nd XI beat Old Vigornians 2nd XI by seven wickets at Sandford Park and Alex Woods (5-13) helped Hanley Castle & Upton 1st XI to victory against Enville 2nd XI at the Glebe.
