LEAGUE leaders Pershore Town are just seven games away from lifting the title and gaining promotion but now face a game every three days to get there.
The Plums kickstarted a chaotic final stretch of matches to concluce the 2022/23 Hellenic League Division One campaign on Thursday night, beating Shortwood United 2-0 to extend their lead on main rivals Milton United to nine points.
Second-placed Hartpury have played three games more than Pershore and are still three points off Danny Janes' side after they battled past Shortwood thanks to first-half goals from Jordan Jones and Danny Murphy.

The league table would suggest Pershore are all but confirmed as champions, but a back-log of cancelled games will cause some serious strain on Janes' men. Over the next 19 days they will play seven league games, as well as having two cup semi-finals to squeeze in April.
Luckily for The Plums, Hartpury and Milton are going head-to-head this weekend so atleast one side will drop points whilst Pershore host play-off chasing Abingdon United.
A draw in that match would mean three points for Pershore would further extend their lead at the top and move them one step closer to promotion.
