SWIMMERS from King's Worcester celebrated a golden medal haul at the recent Droitwich and Worcester Secondary Schools Gala.
The King’s team competed against some of the region’s top swimmers from Nunnery Wood, Bishop Perowne, Droitwich High, Blessed Edward, Christopher Whitehead and RGS.
The gala, with a grueling 37 races, was split into three age groups: Years 7, Years 8 & 9 and Years 10 & 11.
Faced with a few withdrawals due to injury, replacements were found, with special mentions going to King’s Worcester pupils Tom Tebbett and Liv Knott for diving in at the eleventh hour.
There was an impressive display from Catherine Hamilton, who not only swam up three-year groups to provide a fourth member of the Years 10 and 11 team, but also placed a brilliant second in her Butterfly race.
She also helped her team to first place in the Medley Relay and second in the Freestyle.
The swimming gala ended with the Cannon, where a boy and girl from each age group swim in a Freestyle Relay race. King’s pupils Mia Gooch, Flo Venables, Jess D, Isaac Price, Dylan Lewis and Harry Chandler thundered to victory.
Having been narrowly in the lead at the halfway stage, the swimmers nervously awaited the results. They were over the moon to learn that King’s Worcester had won the gala by 13 points, securing more silverware for the King’s trophy cabinet.
Swimming coach, Lizzie Monkhouse added: "Well done swimmers; we are very proud of you. You all showed great team spirit and, without exception, swam with true grit and determination."
