Steven Gerrard brands Celtic preparation 'a disgrace'

The former Rangers boss is captaining a Liverpool Legends side in a charity match against a Celtic Legends select at Anfield.

But he has hammered his own prep work for the friendly match after revealing he was suffering with a chest infection in the run-up.

Gerrard - who left Rangers for Aston Villa - will take on former rivals Celtic and insists he'll be there to play as much as Kenny Dalglish asks of him at the home of his past club.

However, Gerrard told Liverpool TV that he hasn't managed to fit in his normal gym work before charity and friendly matches for the Celtic encounter.

"To be honest, I haven't been too great," he said. "I haven't been feeling well, normally I would do a few days in the gym, keep myself in shape.

"My preparation for this game, I have to be honest, has been a disgrace.

"I haven't been feeling myself, I've had a bit of a chest infection but once the game gets going I will be there for whatever Kenny needs me for."

The match is set to kick-off at 3pm with familiar faces for both sides included in star-studded line-ups for the Anfield event.

The fixture is being hosted by the LFC Foundation in partnership with the Celtic FC Foundation with all proceeds going to good causes.
