FORMER Worcester Warriors director of rugby Steve Diamond is reportedly being targeted by United Rugby Championship side Edinburgh to become head coach.
55-year-old Diamond is on the club’s shortlist alongside former Wasps boss Lee Blackett, currently with Scarlets, to take over from Mike Blair, who is to step down at the end of the current campaign.
Diamond departed Worcester following the financial collapse at the rugby club but was one of four bids that tried to buy the club out of administration as part of a consortium.
The ex-Sale Sharks player and DoR has been open in his attempts to buy Worcester Warriors and said in an interview that he had passed the 'Fit and Proper' directors test with the RFU (Rugby Football Union).
#Together I Can confirm that Adam Hewitt and I are fully committed to bringing Worcester Warriors back to the Premiership. We have the plan and the funding. Give us the opportunity. We Will give you the rugby. Bring it on!

Jim O'Toole and James Sandford were the successful bid to purchase the club (still subject to official confirmation) with administrators Begbies Traynor. But the pair, who front the Atlas consortium, had their application to join the Championship (England's second-tier) rejected by the RFU.
Supporters were vocal in their preference to see Diamond return one day to Worcester, but that now looks unlikely if he does take the job up north.
So angry and shocked that our club has been handed to yet more cowboys. You and Adam's bid was always the right one for everyone. Why have the administrators been allowed to do this to us. Thought they were there to fight for what we wanted, which was always you dimes.

Edinburgh currently sit 12th in the URC, five places off the bottom of the table.
