Worcestershire pace Bowler Josh Tongue followed his teammate Jack Haynes in making an impressive impact on debut for the England Lions in Sri Lanka.
After Haynes scored 64* not out on Wednesday, Tongue took three wickets in the space of 18 balls on what was also his first ever appearance for the Lions on day two of the warm-up match with Sri Lanka Board XI.
He bowled an opening spell of 4-0-17-0 but was soon amongst the wickets when returning to the attack to bring about a Board X1 collapse.
They reached 337-4 in reply to the Lions’ 413-8 declared but were reduced to 347-8.
It was a special day for Tongue after being selected on three previous occasions for the Lions but having to withdraw each time through injury.
He trapped Janith Liyanage (0) lbw and then cleaned bowled Dulith Wellalage (13) and Aviskha Tharindu (6).
His second spell produced figures of 4-2-5-3 to give him an overall analysis of 8-2-22-3 before the Board XI declared on 355-9 – a first innings deficit of 58.
The Lions reached 164-8 in their second innings with Haynes, who came in at number eight, unbeaten on 13 from 25 balls.
The match is a warm-up fixture for two Tests against Sri Lanka A.
