THE Welsh Premiership is to become the new home for two former Worcester Warriors players at opposite ends of their careers.
Ex-Wales international Ashley Beck has joined Merthyr in the Indigo Group Premiership, whilst 18-year-old back-row forward Theo Mayell has been signed by RGC.
Both were released from Worcester after all players and staff had their contracts terminated following the club entering administration last month.
Beck, 32, joined Worcester in 2018 after 11 years with the Ospreys and started his career in rugby with another Welsh Premiership side in Aberavon RFC. He went on to play seven times for his country having made his debut against Australia in 2012.
Merthyr chairman Justin Griffiths believes Beck will help his side both on and off the pitch, but has stated that the door remains open to the centre if a more suitable option comes along.
In a statement, Griffiths said Merthyr were "deeply saddened to watch from afar the difficulties faced by Worcester Warriors and Wasps Rugby.
"Our thoughts go out to all associated with both rugby clubs.
"We believe Ashley's undoubted skillset and experience will offer plenty, both on and off the field.
"In particular we have a young, talented backline, as well as a thriving youth, junior and minis section, who will benefit hugely from Ashley's experience, presence and tutelage."
Mayell will not be as recognisable to many as he only made his senior debut for Worcester in the recent Premiership Rugby Cup game with Gloucester last month.
The promising loose forward who can play across the back-row, has international Age Grade experience with squad selections for England.
RGC Head Coach Ceri Jones said: "Theo is someone I know from his time at Monmouth School, and he is a great addition to our group.
"From Theo’s perspective, it's great to him up here after what went on with Worcester Warriors. He is a player that can play all across the back row and gives us some options and adds competition for places in the starting squad."
