GAVIN Hurren believes Kidderminster Harriers manager Mark Yates is showing his ruthless streak as he builds a squad for next season.

Defender Hurren was one of four players released by Yates following the Aggborough club's 13th-place finish in the Blue Square Premier.

The quartet are the latest group of players to leave the club following former captain Stuart Whitehead's departure in January, along with the sales of Scott Bevan and James Constable.

Hurren joined Harriers from Nottingham Forest in July 2005 and made 101 appearances for the club.

However, he has been unable to carve out a role for himself in the team despite partnering Mark Creighton in the centre of defence for the last 12 games.

"I sat down and spoke to the manager and he decided it was time for me to move on," Hurren said. "It has been a difficult season for me but I felt I had done really well in the last few months.

"I think the manager is being quite ruthless. He moved on a lot of players in January and is continuing that in the summer."

However, 22-year-old Hurren still believes he has what it takes to make it in the professional game and is eyeing a move to a League Two club.
