IN-FORM wing Marcel Garvey has hailed the impact the Sixways coaching staff have had on his career.

The former Gloucester flyer has been in excellent form this season and has even been tipped for an England Saxons call-up.

The 25-year-old speedster has credited Warriors coaches Clive Griffiths and Billy McGinty for his resurgence and added that Kiwi wing Rico Gear has also been a great help.

He said: "Billy doesn't get the recognition he deserves - he does a huge amount for the club. I am in every morning with him doing tackles, defence, high balls, kicking and passing.

"Clive has helped me with my game too and I owe a huge amount to them. They have instilled in me that I haven't been where I should be.

Now I know that, if I want to be a better player, I've got to work hard at the background things too. Hopefully, there will be plenty more to come from me next season.

"I've enjoyed it this year -I've just got to keep doing it and make sure my form is good.

"It is a confidence boost for me to be keeping a great player like Rico Gear on the bench.

"Rico has been watching my game and helping me - he feeds back to me and then tells me what I need to work on.

"I have seen a lot more of the ball this year. Shane Drahm has come back into the side and he has really been firing the back line.

"People like Greg Rawlinson and Aleki Lutui are carrying the ball well too, which makes life easier for the backs."

When Griffiths joined the Warriors, he was keen to work with Garvey and tap into the winger's vast potential.

The Sixways head coach said: "Marcel was my first port of call when I came to Worcester because I'd watched him when he was at Gloucester and he had tremendous potential.

"The fact of the matter was that he wasn't involved enough for us last year and he only scored one try - he's into double figures this season.

"He was getting just four or five touches a game, but that is also into double figures now, so we have encouraged him to come in off his wing and roam around and he has taken it all on board.

"I think he should be on the Saxons tour. Marcel is one of the in-form wingers in the Premiership and you can't ignore that.

"With Marcel, it was a bit of a mental problem and a bit because his confidence was down. We have built that back up and shown him that he is a good player."
