WORCESTERSHIRE riders Sarah Parkes and Harriet Eaton were in good form at the Solihull Riding Club's BE affiliated one-day event.
Droitwich young rider Parkes headed an intro section, seeing off Oxfordshire's Francesca Baillieu by just 0.2 of a mark in a close competition.
She made the most of an excellent dressage score and held the lead after going clear in the middle show jumping phase and adding just 2.8 cross-country time penalties to her overall score.
Her partner was the six-year-old gelding The Golden Guinea III, who she owns jointly with Trudi Faulkner, and the horse was completing only his third BE-affiliated event.
Parkes has competed at one-star international level in the past with Marienta, who made the top 20 at the Chepstow CCI* three-day event in 2006.
Evesham's Eaton was third in a step higher pre-novice section, where she was only just over two marks off top spot.
She rode the seven-year-old mare Primitives Peaches, who is from well-known stallion Primitive Rising, and the pair completed on their dressage score.
The horse made a great start to her BE career in 2006, when she won two out of the three intro events she completed.
Then she qualified for the Intro Championship at the British Eventing Grassroots Festival in Northants in 2007, before making the move up to pre-novice level.
Eaton, a former pupil at St James' School in Malvern, rode for Britain at the Pony European three-day event championships in 2001 with her pony Millbrook Ifor.
