PERSHORE got their 2008 Worcestershire League Division One campaign off to a good start with a six-wicket victory over Netherton at The Bottoms.
The home side's attack, led by Luke Dalley, made early in-roads into the Netherton batting line-up and had half the visitors' team back in the pavilion with just 82 on the scoreboard.
However, Graham Cull and home skipper Dan Jeavons (21) put together a stand of 61 from just nine overs.
Cull reached an unbeaten half-century, but his side collapsed to 169 all out with the last four wickets not adding a run.
Pershore made a steady start to their reply with Dave White (44) continuing last season's form.
The home side progressed towards victory and, after White was dismissed, Chris Ridings showed great maturity with a confident innings and helped by his brother Liam (26) pushed the score along.
A further stand of 63 with captain Lee Wilks took Pershore to within 12 runs of victory before Ridings was dismissed for a match winning 62. However, Pershore eased to victory with more than 20 overs to spare.
Despite bowling out Netherton Seconds for just 155, Pershore's second string still suffered a defeat.
Owen Harrison took 5-41 from his 14 overs as the home side were skittled out.
However, only three Pershore batsmen reached double figures and, despite receiving 31 extras, they still fell 31 runs short of the required total.
Majid Shoaib took five wickets for the home side.
