WORCESTER super-heavyweight Ashley James fought Anthony Bloomer of Telford Amateur Boxing Club for the second time in seven days and came out on top once again.

Having beaten him on a split decision, James knew he was in for a tough time at the tournament in West Brom.

A more measured performance this time from James saw him take control of the bout from the start. Finding his range with fast left jabs he also let loose some terrific right hands. The timing and speed of which, especially when countering, was superb.

He stopped Bloomer in his tracks on numerous occasions with fast, hard punches in a cracking final round.

James deserved to get the nod from all three judges, but at the final bell had to settle for a majority decision in his favour.

Worcester welterweight Shane Smith faced Scott Bowater of Wodenborough ABC in an entertaining bout.

For long periods, Smith was out-boxed by a fast and accurate Bowater. His movement in and out of range made it difficult for Smith to get his punches home, falling short especially in the first round.

Minor success in the second and third saw Smith taking the fight to his opponent. The pair traded heavy punches in the centre of the ring, but Bowater regained his composure to run out a comfortable winner on points.

Worcester schoolboy Trent Smith went up against Dave Skidmore of William Perry ABC in a debut contest for both boxers.

Smith set a fast pace from the off and managed to maintain this throughout.

His non-stop straight punching was too much for Skidmore at times.

The work rate from the Worcester boy was outstanding which reflected in the scoring, giving him his first win by a unanimous margin.
