DROITWICH rounded off their Midlands Division Three West (South) season with an efficient 11-3 victory at Leamington.

The Spa side rested several players ahead of Saturday's promotion play-off decider against Stoke on Trent.

The winner-takes-all game, which has a place in Midlands Two at stake, kicks off at 3pm at Droitwich's Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground.

Against Leamington, the Spa side fielded a young team with 14 players under 26 years of age.

Droitwich started brightly with the back row of Phil Horton, James Davies and Andy Manns getting stuck in to supply good ball for half-backs Steve Poke and Matt Blackmore.

Droitwich pressure led to an infringement which allowed Blackmore the chance to kick a good penalty in difficult windy conditions.

The lead was doubled with a far simpler effort shortly afterwards. The home side rallied to put the Droitwich line under immense pressure, but the defence was excellent with Davies and Dylan Jones particularly effective in the tackle.

Droitwich then lost the influential Poke to a nasty facial injury and were forced to re-organise with Ross Coombes moving to scrum-half.

In the second-half, a clever kick by Coombes saw Craig Mortlemans race forward to gather the ball and crash over in the corner.

As the game wore on, Droitwich were happy to play for territory, mainly through the boot of Blackmore, who had an excellent game in the unfamiliar position of outside-half.

Meanwhile, Droitwich under 15s' last game of the season saw them win 22-7 at Kidderminster.

Sam O'Brien dived over in the first-half to give the visitors the lead.

From a Kidderminster scrum, Droitwich stole the ball and Anton Preece touched down for his side's second try and Oliver Swift converted.

For the remainder of the half, Droitwich continued to press for scoring opportunities but a resolute Kidderminster defence held them at bay.

The second-half saw Kidderminster press deep into Droitwich territory, but the away team dug deep and refused to concede points.

More Droitwich pressure then paid dividends with O'Brien cutting through for his second try.

Kidderminster responded by being awarded a penalty try after some loose play by Droitwich.

After a strength-sapping drive from the Droitwich forwards, the backs took control and passed the ball through a number of well-planned moves before finding Elliot Rich, who lunged over for his first try for the club.
