TWO sides near the basement of the Southern League Mid-land Division played with little enthusiasm in the wet conditions.
Indeed the first-half saw only three shots on goal, all by Malvern's Ed Lyons, but his efforts lacked power and goalkeeper Tom Smith was able to catch two of them and the third went over the bar.
Rothwell started more determined in the second-half and managed their first shot on target in the 52 minute when Jonny Bewers' drive was cau-ght by Craig Humphries.
Malvern tried to pile on the pressure but with both sides playing the off-side trap, and neither sets of forwards able to beat it, most of the play was restricted to midfield.
Smith was the busiest keeper, but Malvern's woeful finishing failed to find the net.
Then, in time added on for injury, the ball was given away, Rothwell broke away, and earned a corner which was headed onto the bar.
The ball fell to Andreas Kattos to slot the ball home and hand three points to Rothwell when they had obviously only come for one.
