EVESHAM United are the champions of the Southern League Division One Midlands.

The Robins easily swept aside the challenge of Woodford to wrap up the title with their biggest win of the season.

The points were as good as secured inside 13 minutes of the opening whistle when top scorer Mark Owen took his season's tally to 32 with his 21st and 22nd league goals of a prolific campaign.

Owen struck after five minutes with a neat turn and finish to convert Simon Fitter's cross and the lead was doubled when the striker latched on to a long ball from Steven Hands and lobbed David Thornton from 15 yards.

Numerous chances came and went before Owen was denied a first half treble when his stoppage-time header struck the angle of post and crossbar.

The interval lead was doubled within two minutes of the start of the second half when Daniel Lennon glanced in from close-range after Steve Lickett had headed on Fitter's corner.

It was 4-0 seconds later when Kai Ridley rolled the ball into his own net but the champions had to wait another 37 minutes before finding the net again when Michael Hayden headed in after the visiting keeper had spilled Danny Scheppel's cross.

It was 6-0 after 87 minutes when Owen completed his hat-trick with a close-range header from Allando Davis's cross and the substitute completed the rout with Evesham's seventh goal two minutes into stoppage-time.

The final whistle was greete dby jubilant scenes from the biggest league crowd of the season with the Evesham players sporting t-shirts saying 'League Champions 2008' as they paraded around the St George's Lane playing area.

It's been a magnificent achievement by the players and all asociated with the club and the biggest honour in the club's history was achieved in fabulous fashion.
