RAINBOW secured the Worcester Table Tennis League Division One crown after completing the double over Pavilion Players.

Wyre kept their noses in front with a strong performance against St George's which saw Doug Payne and Nick Mytton unbeaten in the singles.

But two victories for Rainbow against Players saw them past the winning post with two matches still to play. The trio of Joe Higgs, Trevor Simmons and Pete Griffiths were successful although Stephane Bonnafous won two singles and the doubles in partnership with Lynda Reid.

But Bonnafous' absence for the return fixture gave Rainbow a much easier passage.

At the other end of the table, Falcons, fielding only two players, did well to pick up a rare point against Barflies with an excellent three wins for John Stalker.

Barflies' good run included a hard-fought draw against Players, achieved despite three wins for Bonnafous and two for Reid.

Applications for tickets to attend the league's 75th anniversary dinner on Friday, May 2, can be made to Beryl Shammon on 01905-421715.

Results: St George's 2, Wyre 8; Falcons 4, Barflies 6; Rainbow 7, Pavilion Players 3; Pavilion Players 1, Rainbow 9; Pavilion Players 5, Barflies 5.
