EVESHAM United manager Paul West has urged county football fans to get behind his team as they bid to seal promotion.

Victory for the Robins against Woodford United at St George's Lane on Saturday (3pm) would see them crowned British Gas Business Division One Midlands champions.

United have a four-point lead over second-placed Leamington and can secure their place in next season's Premier Division with a game to spare.

West wants as many people as possible to turn out at the Lane to cheer the players on to their first championship since 1992.

West said: "We need to win and it would be great if we could get some of the Worcester supporters, who have been fantastic this year when their team have been away, down here again to cheer us on.

"We are hoping a few people come out to give us some support. Leamington took 350 to Woodford last week, which is phenomenal at this level, and you can't say it hasn't helped them."

Evesham conceded two late goals to draw 2-2 at home against Barton Rovers last Saturday but West believes that could work in their favour.

He said: "We were a bit disappointed after the weekend because we played so well in the first-half and a sloppy 10 minutes has spoiled it. But it has saved us being lethargic if we only needed a point this week."

He added: "We have had some tough times over the past six or seven weeks but the boys have put themselves in a fantastic position. We have got an opportunity to focus on trying to get the three points to be crowned champions.

"If anybody has been getting carried away, it's certainly not me because ultimately I have always felt this league would go down to the wire.

"It's a time for calm and it's a time for being positive. We are not going to start doing things we haven't done before.

"If the players are focused and go into the game in the right frame of mind, more often than not we have come out with the right result."
