THE first Worcestershire Grasstrack Club meeting of the season took place on the Sixways course with a whole host of riders from across the country attending.

Youngsters took part in the Three Pears Flyer on Saturday, while the seniors competed in the Buildbase 1,000cc Sidecar Championship on Sunday.

The pick of the local junior riders was Darren Drew from Tenbury Wells who finished second out of 12 in the intermediate class.

Jake Skinner from Redditch also bagged a second place in the Max 85 class.

Ann Skinner, Worcester Grasstrack Club secretary, said: "We were pleased that we got so many riders on the day as only 30 originally applied.

"But, because Theo Pijper, the European grasstrack champion, was there to hand out the medals, we had a really good turn-out.

"Despite the poor conditions on the day, all of the youngsters raced really well.

"The Three Pears Flyer on Saturday was the first of the three youth meetings we have at Worcester each season.

"There are six races at each of the three meetings and the riders compete for points in the Worcestershire Youth Grasstrack Club championship."

The next junior meeting at Worcester Grasstrack Club will be the Midlands Centre Championship which takes place on the weekend of July 12 and 13.
