THE clock continues to tick down towards Worcester Warriors' first home game of the Gallagher Premiership season, with the game still very much in doubt.

On Tuesday a press release revealed an agreement had been made for the sale of the rugby club and that the interested party was to produce funds in order to see the game go ahead as planned.

But unless the club's current owners Jason Whittingham and Colin Goldring can confirm their deal with the proposed interested party this evening (Wednesday) then there is a fear the club's games scheduled to be staged at Sixways this weekend will not go ahead.

On Wednesday morning, director of rugby Steve Diamond admitted he was none the wiser on the situation, but had been assured the game is on.

"As far as I am concerned, the game (With Exeter) is on," he said.

"I have been told there is nothing untoward. We are on BT Sport and everyone here at the club is ready to push the green light and go ahead with the game."

It is believed that staging this game will cost in the region of £120,000 all in and there is a 5PM deadline for suppliers and staff to be paid in order for the game to be played.

However, a Premiership Rugby spokesperson did tell the Worcester News that the league would be willing to help Warriors out "as much as possible" in order for them to get the game on this Sunday.

"The current owners are doing everything behind the scenes to ensure the game goes on which means staff being paid, suppliers being paid, workforce coming in to be paid and everything else in between.

"They put out a statement saying Heads of Terms were to be agreed today (Wednesday) so we await that statement."

In the meantime, club staff are still waiting to be paid the remaining 35% of their wages from August and there is a fear that if they are not paid, people will not turn up to work on Sunday.

"The heads of department are as hard working and as conscientious as the rugby side of the business and they have a good team spirit amongst them," added Diamond.

"But it's anxious times for them. You don't go to work if you don't get paid, the means to an end is getting paid so hopefully this can get sorted out and we can have a game this weekend."
