WORCESTER City manager Tim Harris accepted that decisions have to be made following their 3-0 humbling by Bewdley Town at Claines Lane on Tuesday night.

It was a depressing and tense atmosphere around the ground at full-time following another abject performance from Harris' side, their fifth defeat in six to begin the 2022/23 Midland Football League Premier season.

It felt like an important night for City before kick-off with supporters already growing inpatient with the miserable start to the campaign but Tuesday night's performance and result will have done nothing to have eased any fears.

"I am absolutely embarrassed," admitted Harris.

"We are in a bad place and that's when you start looking at your characters and your strength and we cannot find it at the moment.

"I think we need that goal to give us a lift and that would change the whole dynamic but we aren't getting it.

"We aren't scoring. Fair play to Bewdley, they got a lot of blocks in and showed a lot of commitment and desire. They were hungry and we weren't.

"That's something I find extremely disappointing. I am looking at the players we have got and yes we have had some injuries but ultimately it's not acceptable. We now have to look at making some decisions."

Bewdley scored twice at the end of the first-half through Dylan Hart and Nathan Oyemade's stunning free-kick before Hart tucked away a 50th minute penalty to put the game beyond doubt.

Worcester looked bereft of ideas at times and struggled to create many clear cut chances in the 90 minutes.

Harris knows the quality he has within his ranks but knows the levels right now and nowhere near good enough.

"This is nothing to do with their ability. There are some talented lads in this squad," he added.

"They have shown that. Pre-season, we put in some really good performances and scored a load of goals but reality says to you; you have scored one goal in six games and conceded 12 goals.

"Everyone has to take responsibility, including myself.

"The lads are hurting. They have shown to me they are hurting, I am hurting. I am embarrassed of what I have seen after six games with a group of lads that have ability, something has to change."

No doubt that questions will now start to be asked of the manager in the coming days and weeks unless results change.

And whilst that is entirely possible, the vastly experienced Harris knows what is at stake.

"I am old and grey now and have lots of experience," he said.

"But absolutely, those questions deserve to be asked.

"Football is a results business whether you're talking the Premier League or Step 5 of non-league, one has to take responsibility for that."
