NEW Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond has revealed why he rejected Worcestershire's offer to join the New Road side for the whole of the coming season.
Bond, who has instead signed a two-month deal with Hampshire, said the timing of the birth of his expectant wife's third child was the pivotal factor behind his decision.
The former Warwickshire player has craved a return to county cricket since his successful stint at Edgbaston in 2003.
"The reason I chose Hampshire instead of Worcestershire is that my wife is expecting our third child in August so the timing of going to Hampshire and leaving at the end of June is perfect for us," Bond said.
"I had no issues with Worcestershire and they are a great county, and it was humbling that they were interested in me, but it just came down to a timing issue for my family.
"I played for Warwickshire in 2003, and I've always wanted to go back to county cricket ever since because I enjoyed it so much, and now I can't wait to start playing for Hampshire."
