ADAM Webster admits the speed of his transfer to Hinckley United has left him with mixed emotions.

The striker brought down the curtain on an, at times, illustrious six-year career at St George's Lane when he joined their Blue Square North rivals yesterday.

He signed for Worcester City from Bedworth United for just under £7,000 in December 2001, scoring 95 goals in 256 games - his last earning a 1-1 draw at Nuneaton Borough earlier this month.

Webster became the third longest serving player at the club behind Danny McDonnell and Carl Heeley when he past 250 appearances at the turn of the year.

However, the 27-year-old's move has taken most people by surprise, not least Webster himself who last night was due to feature for his new club against Stalybridge Celtic.

"I have not said goodbyes or had a last game at home," he said. "Unless there's a midweek game I won't be able to say hello and goodbye to people but hopefully I can get down to Worcester's presentation night.

"I would have liked to play my last game at home but things happened so quickly and I was happy with what Hinckley said and I made the decision there and then. But I have regrets I didn't play my last game at St George's Lane and scoring or winning my last game would have been good, but that's football."

He added: "I have got mixed emotions. I am sad to be leaving but glad to be joining Hinckley. I am looking forward to producing some of what I did at City for Hinckley.

"I would have been happy to stay at Worcester until the end of my career. I had no problems with anyone at the club but things change.

"There was a chance of getting in the play-offs but after Saturday's defeat it looks as though the club have decided that's gone now and have to look at next season.

"The gaffer is looking at the future and he needs to know what players are available to him. We are both quite sad to have parted company."

Webster became a fans' favourite during his time with the club, endearing himself to supporters with his goal-scoring prowess - including all four in a 4-1 win at Leigh RMI in April 2005.

Other highlights include high league finishes and playing Huddersfield live on Match of the Day.

The Leicester-based marksman said: "The FA Cup run was good and we had good challenges towards the end of the season when we had a chance to get in the play-offs.

"The bad times were that we never got promoted, my in-juries and the bad games that I put in and the bad results for the team. Overall, I have had a fantastic time."

He added: "I could go through names but I would like to thank everybody. I wish Worcester all the best for the season. I hope they get the new ground and promotion. It's just a shame I didn't get the chance to do it myself."
