WORCESTERSHIRE will have a fourth representative in The Hundred for the upcoming 2022 competition after young pace bowler Mitchell Stanley was signed by Manchester Originals.
The 21-year-old joins Jack Haynes, Pat Brown and Muhammad Hasnain (all Oval Invincibles) in being called up for the tournament that starts next month.
This summer, Stanley was handed his T20 debut by Worcestershire in the Vitality Blast and produced several promising performances.
The Telford-born player took wickets in the powerplay, including Leicestershire Foxes Harry Swindells with his very first ball in the tournament at the Uptonsteel County Ground.
His other scalps included Harry Brook (Yorkshire Vikings), Sam Hain and Alex Davies (Birmingham Bears) and Joe Clarke (Notts Outlaws).
Stanley also had Jos Buttler (Lancashire Lightning) dropped first ball in his first match after being appointed England’s new white ball captain.
Stanley ended with seven wickets from his five appearances.
He said: "Being selected for the Blast was a great experience for me, and I was grateful for Worcestershire to give me that opportunity and to gain so much experience.
"Now, to have an opportunity in The Hundred is brilliant, and I can only benefit from playing alongside and against some more quality players.
"I can only use this as a learning curve for developing my game, and hopefully, myself and Worcestershire will reap the benefits."
