CHRIS Smith has been given the go-ahead to return to training for Worcester City on Tuesday night.
The St George's Lane skipper has been dogged by an ankle problem in recent weeks and has not played since hobbling off early in the second-half against Blyth Spartans on February 2.
It was hoped he would be back in time for the 1-0 defeat against Hucknall but he broke down in training a few days before and was not involved at Nuneaton on Tuesday.
However, the central defender has been cleared to step up his bid to return to first-team action and is expected to take part in Tuesday's training session.
Midfielder Emeka Nwadike should also be involved despite hurting his back in the 1-1 Blue Square North draw at Liberty Way.
City manager Richard Dryden said: "I think Chris Smith will start training on Tuesday. We have got the go-ahead from the doctor and physio with that. It's a big plus as we need as many good players back fit as we can.
"I have always said he's a major figure in our squad so the quicker we can get him back the better.
"We have got no further injuries from Tuesday so, apart from not getting three points, it was quite a decent night."
City had no match at the weekend but visit Hyde United on Saturday (3pm).
