PERSHORE Town are opening their doors to the public to end months of rebuilding work following the summer floods.

The Midland Combination Premier Division club's King George V Playing Fields base was submerged by four feet of water last July, causing £400,000 worth of damage.

It was September before the team could play a league game on the pitch and a complete refurbishment of the clubhouse was not finished until just before Christmas.

Last month the floodlights were finally mended, allowing matches to kick-off at the normal time of 3pm.

The club are holding an open day on Saturday to show off their new premises and honour the hard work of committee members.

Children's football will kick-off proceedings at 11am before Pershore Town face Walsall Wood in a league match at 3pm. An official ceremony will take place at about 7.30pm.

Chairman Colin Shepherd said: "We are so pleased to be able to play football there again.

"We have had the club completely refurbished and replastered. We have two new bars, new furniture and new kitchens.

"The disaster cost £400,000. We managed to put that right through the insurance company and some generous donations, one of which was from Wychavon District Council."
