STOURPORT celebrated an excellent 14-11 victory against second-placed Bloxwich to make it four wins out of five in Midlands Five West (North).

Several changes had to be made to the Stourport side due to injury, with veteran John Connolly starting at number eight for the first time this season.

The home team began convincingly and, from a scrum in their own half, flanker Rob Phillips broke through several tackles to score. Fly-half Lee Philp added the extras.

The home side were under pressure, conceding several penalties and had Connolly sin-binned for 10 minutes.

Two of the penalties were converted, which made the half-time score 7-6 to Stourport.

In the second-half, Stourport wingers Andy Gaskill and Adam Wyton were superb in defence but couldn't prevent Bloxwich from taking the lead with an unconverted try.

With only two minutes to go, Bloxwich were awarded a scrum just 10 metres from their own line.

Stourport hooker Steve Perera, with the assistance of his pack, took the ball against the head and it was quickly fed to Philp who jinked past two defenders to score the winning try, which he also converted.
