A SIXTH straight league victory has left the Robins four points clear at the top of the British Gas Business Division One Midlands standings.

However, it wasn't one of Evesham's best displays on an afternoon of few chances and they left it late before claiming a 16th win in 19 league outings.

Full-back Michael Hayden popped up in the Stourbridge penalty area and thumped a header from Joe Clarke's 89th minute cross into the roof of the net. By this time both Mark Owen and Gary Hay had been withdrawn as manager Paul West sought a way of opening up the Glassboys' rearguard.

Steve Lutz came closest in the first-half with a volley that Lewis Solly pushed out.

The home keeper was left totally exposed a minute after the restart but the unmarked Hay failed to control strike partner Owen's cross.

It was Evesham's turn for a let-off 60 seconds later when Leon Broadhurst found himself with only Nathan Vaughan to beat but the visitors' stopper produced a crucial block with his legs.

Neither side appeared capable of breaking the deadlock until Hayden struck on an afternoon when former Worcester City man Danny Hodnett produced a solid display in the absence of the injured Anthony Watson.

Another former St George's Lane man, Tom Warmer, left Evesham on Friday and his new club Willenhall Town defeated Chasetown on a Saturday when West's table toppers were the only one of the leading nine clubs to pick up maximum points.
