Worcestershire opener Ed Pollock admitted he "owed the team a lot of runs" following his phenomenal 77-ball century in the seven wicket win over Middlesex on Wednesday.
Pollock's knock included 7 sixes and 11 fours to guide the visitors to a victory that sees them stay in the hunt for promotion in Division Two of the County Championship.
The left-hander scored a century on his Championship debut for Worcestershire against Leicestershire but has since struggled for runs and it had led to some questioning his place.
But after scoring 158 for Ombersley last weekend in the Birmingham League, he looks to have regained his confidence and he more than made up for his baron spell with a display that will live long in the memory.
"After the last ten weeks, where I haven’t scored a bean, I was thinking ‘I’ve got in; I’m going to make this count," he said.
"I owe the team a lot of runs, I had a lot of making up to do, and I really enjoyed being out there.
"As much as anything, it was back to watching the ball and reacting to the ball.
"I wanted to be as positive as I could. It’s reacting to the ball, but it’s also the positive intent that goes with it, and I came out with that mindset.
"There were still enough demons in there, but it was very much a case of cashing in when it was in my area."
Pollock's knock certainly won the game for Worcestershire and that result could have a massive impact come the end of the season.
The win not only moves The Pears up into third place in the Division Two table, it also prevented second-placed Middlesex from gaining on them in second.
Middlesex are now only eleven points ahead of Worcestershire and the race to finish in the top two now looks very interesting
And Worcestershire are right there in the mix with five games left in the 2022 campaign.
They now have an 11 day break ahead of their next league match, at New Road against Derbyshire, before they break for a month for the Royal London Cup.
The Pears then have four games left to see if they can gain promotion back to Division One; away at Glamorgan and Sussex before finishing off the campaign with back-to-back home games against Nottinghamshire and Middlesex.
