WORCESTER Nomads are plotting a strong bid for the Worcestershire League Division One title after going close last season.

Dannie Rees has been re-elected as firsts' captain and Paul Gardner is the new second-in-command.

The club reviewed the close tussle for promotion to the Birmingham League at their annual meeting.

Meanwhile, the seconds did well in Division One under the leadership of skipper Andy Leach and vice-captain Nic Lloyd, who will both carry on.

Nomads are trying to recruit new players for all teams, including the new fourths side.

Senior and junior players are already involved in winter nets at the Royal Grammar School and Alice Ottley.

Sessions are held on Sunday evenings for seniors from 6pm until 7pm and for junior groups in various age groups from 4.30pm until 6pm.

The fourths, created for the first time in Nomads' history, will play in Worcestershire League Division Nine from the ground in Broadwas.

The thirds, promoted to Division Seven, have been successful since starting 10 years ago.

David Pearson will continue as thirds' captain with Bill Beazley as his deputy.

Worcester Nomads Academy, consisting mainly of 14 to 17-year-olds, will carry on in Worcestershire Sunday League Division Two after finishing runners-up last year.

Geoff Taylor, 19, will be this season's captain and 15-year-old James Smith is deputy. The academy is managed by Nick Williams.

Ollie Butterworth has taken over from Beazley as fixture secretary but is currently overseas so Terry Birt is filling in and can be contacted on 07771-548042.

Anyone interested in joining the club can call club secretary Pearson on 01905-456586 or Barrie Rees on 07771-862768.
