DAVID Burtoft has set himself the target of earning a contract with Worcester City.

The 18-year-old midfielder made an instant impact at St George's Lane by scoring 15 minutes into his debut as a second-half substitute against Blyth Spartans on Saturday.

Droitwich Spa-based Burtoft was snapped up by manager Richard Dryden from Blue Square North rivals Hinckley United last Friday and wants to make his non-contract arrangement permanent.

"My aim is to get offered a contract by the club," he said.

"I am still young and still learning. I want to try and cement my place in the team, take my chances and do the best I can."

With City trailing 2-0, Burtoft replaced injured skipper Chris Smith and struck the equaliser six minutes after fellow teenager Matt Dinsmore had halved the deficit.

Burtoft, who went to Droitwich Spa High School, said: "It was brilliant, pretty much a dream debut. You can't ask much more after 15 minutes.

"It was a good strike with my weaker foot. The ball just fell to me, I took a touch out of my feet, just hit it and it went in the corner.

"I think it helped settle me down. Worcester get quite big crowds so it was nice to get a goal and score on my debut.

"It's my local team so it's good to be playing 10 minutes down the road."
