WORCESTERSHIRE chief executive Mark Newton believes it could be some time before the New Road outfit get to see any of the £30million cash injection that the England and Wales Cricket Board announced today.
The sport's governing body in this country has revealed details of major investments at all levels of cricket in a five-year strategy.
Counties are set for grants of £500,000 for international standard floodlights at their main ground and an extra £300,000 to install state-of-the-art drainage systems.
However, grounds with international status are likely to benefit first before the money filters through to the rest of the counties.
"Obviously this is fantastic news for cricket, but we are not going to see the money tomorrow," Newton said.
"The Test grounds will get their money first and then it will filter down to the rest of us."
And, while there is £500,000 available for floodlights, Newton believes the chances of New Road being able to have them on a permanent basis are slim.
"I'm not sure that we could get planning permission to have permanent floodlights at New Road," Newton added.
"We could not have retractable ones because they would just retract into the floodplain."
Despite Worcestershire's home flooding virtually every year, Newton says that even the grants for the drainage system will take its time to come their way.
"We improved the drainage last year so it would be some time for us to get money on that as well," he added.
The ECB also announced that part of the £30m injection will be used for annual scholarships which will see 36 young English cricketers get their chance to play abroad, while there is also major investments in other areas of the game.
