THE lure of the Football League was just too much for James Constable as he left Kidderminster Harriers for League Two side Shrewsbury Town.

The 23-year-old striker left Aggborough on transfer deadline day and signed a two-and-a-half year contract at the New Meadow club in a joint deal with Harriers keeper Scott Bevan. The fee is believed to be around the six-figure region.

The former Walsall man, who began his career at Southern League side Cirencester Town before moving to Chippenham Town, says that it was always his ambition to get back playing in the Football League.

"When I came to Kidderminster, it was always with the view of getting back in the league," Constable said.

"Sadly that wasn't to be with Harriers and now this opportunity has come my way - it was too good to turn down."

The Harriers top-scorer will be greatly missed by the Aggborough faithful, but Constable said that he enjoyed his time at the Blue Square Premier side.

But, now plying his trade with the Shrews, he is hoping that he can become a hit with his new supporters just as he did with the Kidderminster fans.

"There is still a chance that Shrewsbury can reach the play-offs and hopefully I can play my part in that," he added.

"The move here is purely a footballing one. I met up with the lads yesterday and they are all really nice.

"Gary Peters, the Shrewsbury manager, took the morning session and I feel that I can learn a lot from him."
