RAINBOW may still be well placed for the Worcester Table Tennis League Division One title with three matches in hand, but they suffered their first loss of the season, going down 6-4 to new leaders Wyre.
Chris Hewitt won two for Rainbow, as did Nick Mytton for Wyre, but Matt Hartwell, whose victories in his three singles plus the doubles with Mytton, tilted the balance in a hard-fought encounter.
In the previous weeks, Wyre drew with Eagles and beat Flacons 6-4.
Barflies had two hard-fought home matches winning one and losing the other.
Four of the games went to five-sets against St George's, two of them ending in successes for Jamie Mills.
In the clash of the number ones, Mark Fiddian went two games up, but Lewis Siket fought back to win and the visitors left with a 6-4 victory.
Against Pavilion Players, two wins for Fiddian and Steve Glazzard plus one from Tony Birch and the doubles meant that the match was already won before Fiddian went down to Stephane Bonnafous in another five-setter.
Broadheath Belters continued their winning ways and also their climb up the Div-ision Two table with a sound 6-4 win against Championship rivals Jorakeroge.
Peter Stevens was in scintillating form convincingly winning all his three singles in straight sets, and he also added the doubles in partnership with Pete Roberts.
Himbleton A' crashed 8-2 to fellow strugglers Hartlebury Wanderers.
Simon Webb won his three singles for the Wanderers and Dave Jeffries and Lyn Davies added two apiece, with Webb and Jeffries also being successful in the doubles. John Rowe won two singles for Himbleton.
Jorakeroge, who last week topped the table, were without Ken Baker and were soundly beaten 9-1 by Cat-hedral Guild. Their lone win came from skipper John Mytton.
Elizabethans came away from Love City Groove with a comprehensive 8-2 success in Division Three. Dave Bradley won all three of his games for Elizabethans.
