TERRY Jenkins will be hoping to go one better this year as the Whyte and Mackay Premier League Darts kicks off in Glasgow tonight.

The Bull reached the final last season only to be beaten by 13-time world champion Phil The Power' Taylor.

So the former antiques dealer from Ledbury will hope he can keep on improving after crashing out of the Ladbrokes.com PDC World Championships in the first round last month.

Jenkins, who has reached the last 16 of the previous two tournaments he has taken part in, faces up-and-coming Stoke thrower Adrian Lewis at the SECC in Glasgow.

Sky Sports commentator Sid Waddell said: "To live with this kind of company, he is going to have to average 97-98 more consistently.

"Far too often he averages around 90 in the Premier League and that just won't do.

"When Terry's on form he is getting 130 or 140 shut-outs, but he has got to improve his averages and make sure he gets more three-dart finishes."

The 2007 world champion Raymond van Barneveld kicks the new season off, which is live on Sky Sports One tonight (7.30), as he takes on wildcard entrant Wayne Mardle, before Jenkins clashes with Lewis.

Peter Manley takes on 2008 world champion John Part, while Taylor faces the in-form James Wade.

Waddell is backing youngster Wade as a dark horse for the competition. He added: "He could even turn out to be the overall star of the season."
