IT proved to be the perfect afternoon at Spring Lane on Saturday as Malvern RFC cruised to a 45-21 win over Old Halesonians.
The day was more focussed on matters off the pitch as it was the final home game for David 'Ern' Robins before he steps down as President at the end of the season.
A club lunch was held and a huge crowd watched the first team, who were led on the day by 200-cap man Dave Smith, as they produced the goods on the pitch.
Ross Davies got the scoring for the day up and running in the 25th minute as he bundled over from close range before Malvern flanker John Friths was sent to the sin bin by the referee.
Old Hales pushed their way over under the posts just a minute later but two tries from the hosts thanks to Ben Gaubert and another for Davies saw Malvern hold a 17-7 lead at the break.
The second-half was much more routine and Finn Potter starred in his unfamiliar role on the wing and he collected a kick ahead to offload to Giggle for his first and the bonus-point try.
Potter raced in for one of his own before Giggle scampered over twice more as he completed his hat-trick and Malvern pulled well clear.
Hales crossed twice late on but it mattered not and the club and players enjoyed a Spring Lane party as celebrations continued into the night.
"We have made memories in the last two games," said director of rugby Rob Cook.
"Last weekend with the last minute win at Ludlow and then again today (Saturday).
"To have the number of supporters here was outstanding. What a day it was, absoloutely brilliant.
"It's brilliant and this is what club rugby is all about. We don't get the support that professional clubs do but you have to make your own luck.
"Hopefully days like today can motivate more people to come next season. I am very happy and it's a very proud day for me.
"We wanted to win for Ern and Dave and we did it, it's outstanding.
"Ern is a legend who has poured his heart and soul into this club. I went to University with Dave and he is a top lad and to record 200 games is a serious achievement.
"But the players put the effort in today for both guys and it was a great result and a great day."
