WORCESTER City Women came down to earth with a bump as they followed up the best result in their history with a one of the worst.
Having beaten Hereford Pegasus, two leagues higher, 3-2 after extra time in the County Cup seven days earlier, Worcester slumped to a 3-1 home defeat against a Tamworth side who had not won a game in their league all season.
Hazel Adams netted a hat-trick as Paul Hennessey's side took the lead and then came from 2-1 behind to defeat Pegasus at Bilford Road.
Captain Vicky Andrews said: "It was the best result we have ever had because Hereford Pegasus have always beaten us comfortably.
"We always hoped we could win but we didn't go out there to win, we wanted to see where we were in comparison and we were absolutely fantastic. I think that's the best game we have played."
But the skipper was rather more subdued after the league cup first round defeat against Tamworth, in which Genie Ward was on target.
Andrews said: "It was so disappointing. It's not the losing, it was the way we played.
"Tamworth were not a good side, they did not play well but we played worse and you wouldn't have known it was the same team that played Hereford."
Worcester are without a game on Sunday but return to action the following weekend when they visit Studley in West Midlands Division One South.
