WORCESTER City plan to keep Southport match-winner Jonathan Munday for a second month.
But captain Chris Smith's future remains unclear and looks set to be decided at a board meeting tomorrow night.
Munday, who scored the winner at Haig Avenue on Saturday, is due to end his loan from Kidderminster Harriers after this weekend's Blue Square North fixture against Blyth Spartans.
But the St George's Lane club have been in discussions with their Aggborough counterparts in a bid to retain a player who has already doubled his appearance tally for the season since joining City.
"We are hopeful," manager Richard Dryden said. "I have spoken to Kidderminster a few times and we are just waiting for the go-ahead."
Keeping Munday could prove even more vital if AFC Telford United are successful in prising Smith away from Worcester.
The Shropshire club threatened to withdraw their offer for the player, increased from their initial £1,500 bid, when a self-imposed deadline passed last Friday.
However, they have agreed to extend that time-frame to allow City's board to consider the matter at a meeting tomorrow night.
Bucks' chairman Lee Carter said: "It has been a very hard week and the fact that we have been unable to complete this transfer has just compounded the general disappointment.
"The manager wanted a quality centre-half to compliment the squad that he has assembled so that we could try and maintain the push for a play-off spot. If Worcester want to come back then we would be foolish not to consider starting the process again."
Meanwhile, Harriers' acquisition of former Hereford United left-back Alex Jeannin until the end of the season looks to have increased City's chances of extending the loan of Jonny Harkness.
Harkness still has half of his one-month deal to run but Dryden will be keen to keep him at the club with Shabir Khan ruled out with a damaged elbow.
Skipper Smith, who came on as a late sub for Rapinder Gill at Southport, is expected to be given a run-out in Worcester reserves' Central Conference League Cup match at Hednesford Town tonight (7.45).
Adam Webster could also feature in the Keys Park clash as the striker continues his recovery from the ankle injury that kept him out of the Southport match.
