WORCESTER Warriors' head coach Steve Diamond says teams towards the bottom of the league "don't get the rub of the green" that "glam" sides like Harlequins do after their 29-21 defeat to the reigning Premiership champions on Friday night.
Diamond resisted a full-blown rant at full-time but was clearly frustrated by a number of decisions during the game, that ultimately meant Warriors took nothing from what was an impressive display.
The main call of the game came in the second-half when Worcester's Sione Vailanu had a second try ruled out with the scores at 14-19 to the then 14-man Quins, who had Danny Care in the sinbin.
Referee Christophe Ridley initially awarded the score but TMO Rowan Kitt suggested that the Tongan number eight had grounded the ball before the line and then knocked it on.
"I think sides at the bottom of the league don't get the rub of the green sometimes," said Diamond.
"There was a crucial decision when Quins were down to 14 that looked like a clear try and that proved to be a turning point in the game.
"There were lots of penalties in the build-up to that incident that weren't punished and that's what the referees are there for.
"But that's what happens when you're not a great team and you play one of the glamour teams; you don't get those decisions."
The visitors then went on to score their bonus-point score and the winning try before a consolation from centre Seb Atkinson provided some late drama
But despite taking nothing from the game in terms of points, Diamond was impressed with his young side that pushed the reigning champions all the way.
"I'm really proud of the lads," he admitted.
"We had a really young back line out there who stood up really well and a couple of instances lost us the game.
"The no try incident and then the scrum penalty at the end that Quins dominated us and kicked to the corner and scored from.
"We should have got a point out of the but we will shake ourselves down and get ready for next weekend."
Next up for Worcester is a trip to the Brentford Community Stadium to face an in-form London Irish side this weekend.
Irish sit fifth in the league table, just two points outside the play-off places and have beaten Saracens and Exeter Chiefs in their last two home matches.
