WORCESTER Nomads Academy recorded a three-wicket success over Avoncroft in the Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League with seven balls left.

Batting first, Avoncroft made 84-6 after getting off to a poor start when Paul O'Driscoll caught and bowled opener Andy Nicol for three.

Mark Whitehead was bowled first ball by the same bowler who nearly completed his hat-trick only to have the umpire rule a no-ball.

But O'Driscoll (3-15) grabbed his third wicket when Jon Bird (10) was well caught by Jamie Smith.

Adam Rodway (10) and Will Sach (27) steadied the ship with 20 runs off four overs, while Paul Rodway added 12.

Geoff Taylor took 2-23 and Smith 1-21 as Nomads bowled and fielded superbly.

In reply, Nomads got off to a good start as openers Taylor (23) and Smith (27 retired) put on 40 runs from 4.1 overs.

Sam Roberts added eight before Casey Saunders and O'Driscoll led Nomads home on 85-3. Nicol took 1-17.

In the other Sunday game, Droitwich A' passed Cutnall Green's 117-5 to win by three wickets with three balls left.

Green's openers Neil Fletcher (30 not out) and Matt Harris put on 50 runs from 27 balls before the former retired.

Dan Higgins was bowled by Gareth Thomas (2-29) for 12 and then Harris (23) followed with Steve Walsh taking the catch off Thomas' bowling.

Paul Hutchins (10) and Neil Evans (21) all contributed to the final target.

Droitwich A' got off to a bad start when Fletcher stumped Jerome Connor off the first ball from Harris (1-20).

Paul Bryan and Walsh took time but slowly built the score up to 43 before the former was run out for 19.

Walsh retired and Fletcher took another stumping, claiming Karl Goddard off Higgins (1-33) for 18.

Mike Rogers retired on 25 with the score on 113 but Walsh (31no) returned to guide Spa home with Thomas (8no).

Sunday matches: Himbleton v RGSAO (7.30pm); Droitwich B' v Worcester Nomads A' (8.30pm).

On Monday, Rushwick defeated Colwall by three wickets after surpassing their 92-4.

Colwall got off to a poor start when opener Tom Coleman was run out for four.

Sam Critchard and Ben Wheeler took the score to 46 before the former ran himself out for 17.

Wheeler retired on 25, while Simon Harwood departed for nine, Matt Morgan for four and Chris Wheeler closed the innings out on 8no. For Rushwick, Neil Clifton (1-18) was successful.

In reply, Rushwick got off to a poor start when openers Mark Perkins (5) and Tim Bossinger (3) were both run out with only 10 balls bowled, Clifton followed for seven but Mark Groves (28no) and Chris Colley (28no) saw Rushwick home with seven balls to spare on 93-3. Critchard (1-30) took the only wicket for Colwall.

There were more runs as Worcester saw off The Fossils, who hit 101-6, by one wicket.

Fossils' openers Tony Williams and Martin Woodward scored 62 off the first 6.1 overs.

Williams retired and Woodward fell for 20 before wickets then fell regularly as the run-rate dropped.

Bob Rogers (4), Kevin Gilbert (5) and Cliff Rawlings (0) struggled, while Williams returned only to be run out for 29.

Simon Hudson was bowled by Liam Weston (1-5) for 13. James Wagstaff took 2-27.

In reply, Worcester lost Oli Peppiatt (13), George Bayley (5), Wagstaff (0) and Harry Brown (5) with the score on 55.

But Weston (26) batted well and Matt Walters (34no) did even better, scoring the necessary 33 runs to win with two overs to spare.

For Fossils, Woodward claimed 1-25 and Rawlings 1-20.
