WORCESTER City striker Mark Danks is set to miss the rest of the season with cruciate knee ligament damage.
Last season's top-scorer has been playing through the pain barrier in recent weeks and a scan has revealed Danks will be out for up to six months.
He will need surgery on the problem with injury restricting the 23-year-old former Wolves player to only 16 starts during the current campaign and five goals.
But there is better news for City after young forward Matt Dinsmore, a second year youth scheme student, signed a contract until the end of next season.
Dinsmore, who turned 18 on Tuesday, scored against Evesham United in the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup and made his Blue Square North debut against Workington last Saturday.
He said: "It's a great opportunity for me, especially at such a young age, and I'm really looking forward to stepping up a level from youth standard to the senior level.
"Gary Walker and Troy Wood have both progressed from the youth set-up and been given chances in the first team. I'm aiming to take my chance."
