THREE Kidderminster Harriers strikers missed penalties as their bid to reach Wembley for a second season running collapsed tonight.

After Harriers' second round replay with Weymouth ended 2-2 following extra-time, the visitors kept their nerve to win 3-0 on spot-kicks.

It was a sorry tale for the Kidderminster forwards with Iyseden Christie blazing over before James Constable and Justin Richards were denied by keeper Jason Matthews.

Meanwhile, Paolo Vernazza, James Coutts and Stuart Douglas all beat Scott Bevan to send Weymouth through to the last 16.

Harriers battled hard in the game with Jeff Kenna and Constable twice levelling during the 90 minutes but they were denied further goals by the impressive Matthews.

Boss Mark Yates kept the same first 11 that defeated Farsley Celtic 2-1 on Saturday as Harriers, who lost 3-2 to Stevenage in the Trophy final last season, tried again against Weymouth.

The two sides drew 0-0 at the Wessex Stadium earlier this month and then last Tuesday's scheduled replay was postponed due to the weather.

Terras manager Jason Tindall brought in striker Michael Malcolm for his debut along with forward Stuart Beavon, defender Joel Kitamarike and Kyle Critchell.

In a frenetic start, Harriers looked lively but quite the opposite applied when they fell asleep at a sixth-minute corner and Malcolm finished past keeper Bevan.

The hosts hit back with Simon Russell forcing a save from Matthews but Weymouth took control and only the agility of Bevan denied Beavon and Malcolm further goals.

Toothless Harriers then lost midfielder Russ Penn to injury four minutes before half-time with Gavin Hurren taking his place.

But a thunderbolt from centre-half Mark Creighton nearly forced a leveller when Matthews palmed away his sweet volley.

Top-scorer Constable went close in the second period but Harriers' equaliser arrived on 49 minutes.

Striker Christie was up-ended by Kitamarike, who was yellow carded, and veteran right-back Kenna found the bottom left-hand corner with the resulting 25-yard free-kick.

The goal fired Harriers' fans up and the team's self-belief was boosted but Stuart Whitehead's error gifted Weymouth the lead again in the 64th minute.

The experienced defender failed to control Michael Blackwood's pass and Malcolm nipped in to find the net.

Yates reverted to a three-man attack with Richards replacing the ineffective Michael McGrath and the reward arrived quickly on 71 minutes.

Weymouth's defence misjudged Creighton's long ball forward and Constable drove through the middle before rounding Matthews and slotting home his 14th goal of the season.

Hungry Harriers went after the winner with Constable and ex-Hereford United player Andy Ferrell both denied by good blocks from the hard-working visitors.

Hurren, providing plenty of tenacity in midfield, saw his low drive saved by Matthews and Richards' spectacular effort was fumbled on the goal-line but Yates' men could not prevent extra-time.

Russell provided dangerous delivery from the flank in the first-half of extra-time without his team-mates capitalising.

Constable had an effort disallowed for offside in the second period and Christie's header was tipped away by Matthews as the match went to penalties.

But misses from Christie, Constable and Richards handed Weymouth a comfortable 3-0 win on spot-kicks.

Harriers: Bevan; Kenna, Creighton, Whitehead, Blackwood; Russell, Penn, Ferrell, McGrath; Constable, Christie. Subs: Hurren, Richards, Coleman, Bignot, Barnes-Homer.
