WORCESTER City were today bracing themselves for an improved offer from Blue Square North rivals AFC Telford United for skipper Chris Smith.

The Bucks Head outfit made an original £1,500 bid for the defender last week which St George's Lane manager Richard Dryden called "derisory", and while the offer is more it's likely to be some way short of the club's valuation of the 26-year-old.

"I haven't see anyone better in this league than Chris and if Telford do make a new bid hopefully the chairman (Dave Boddy) will reject it," Dryden said.

"The chairman knows that Chris is a big part of my plans."

Smith is currently out with an ankle injury and his contract with the club runs until the end of the current season.
