GRAHAM Turner believes Hereford United must add at least two more players to the squad if they are to maintain their challenge for promotion to League One.
Hereford, who play Cardiff City in the FA Cup fourth round next weekend, are currently second in the League Two table and head to fellow promotion hopefuls Chesterfield on Monday.
That game at Saltergate will be their eighth in a month and the strain is beginning to take its toll on a relatively small squad.
Turner today secured the signing of Carshalton Athletic midfielder Jack MacLeod but he is more one for the future and the manager wants to add further fresh faces.
United have been rebuffed on several occasions already during the transfer window but Turner is hopeful of doing more business soon, particularly in the loan market.
He said: "I currently have a number of promises from clubs, from Premiership down to League One, who are going to let me know as soon as possible whether we can take one of their players.
"We have played a lot of football over recent weeks and it means that if we are to be serious promotion contenders, we need to bring at least two more players in."
Turner is also hopeful of being able to extend Lee Collins' loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old defender has shown his versatility since arriving from Molineux but is due to return after the Chesterfield match.
"The highest accolades must go to the players, not only for the way they have performed but for their adaptability," said Turner.
"Lee Collins is an example - he started off at right-back, was forced across to left-back due to Robbie Threlfall's in-jury and, finally, has moved to central defence where he has put in some very efficient performances."
Hereford United's fourth round FA Cup tie with Cardiff City on Sunday, January 27, at Edgar Street will kick-off at 12.30pm.
