WORCESTERSHIRE CCC's summer recruit Matthew Wade is today celebrating T20 World Cup glory.
The wicket-keeper-batsman was part of the Australian side which defeated New Zealand in Dubai by eight wickets to lift the trophy on Sunday.
Wade was not required to play a major role in his country’s victory which was achieved with seven balls to spare.
But he had played his part in ensuring Australia reached the final with an unbeaten 41 off 17 balls in the semi-final win over Pakistan.
The T20 title added to Wade’s five Sheffield Shield titles with Victoria, two of them as captain.
It is the kind of winning mentality Wade will be bringing to New Road next summer when he is available to play in all formats.
He also finished the tournament with more dismissals than any other player.
Wade’s catch to dismiss Daryl Mitchell off Josh Hazlewood was his ninth in the competition, one more than Scotland’s Matt Cross.
Half centuries from David Warner and Mitchell Marsh enabled Australia to surpass a New Zealand total of 172-4 in which Kane Williamson struck 85.
