STEVE Grant bagged the winner as Worcester Men's Firsts moved up to fourth in the BodyKraft Midlands Premier with a 1-0 hockey win at Lichfield.

They increased their points tally to 22 but the game was close in a high-tempo opening spell.

Worcester began to take control and had the majority of possession for the rest of the first-half.

They came close to getting on the end of two Chris Perry crosses, while Pete Gibbins shot wide after creating space in the D'.

The visitors took the lead five minutes before half-time when Grant was on hand to finish a rebound from a Chris Adams penalty corner.

Worcester continued to dominate the second-half, creating chances for Gibbins and Jon Sprague but both were unable to finish.

Goal-scorer Grant cleared off the line to secure the win for his side.

Worcester Seconds secured a 1-0 win over fellow title-challengers Warwick in the West Midlands Premier.

Worcester started well and dominated throughout but struggled to convert half-chances.

The defence, especially new boy Bobby Mackichan, looked solid.

Loughborough took the lead after winning a short corner but Worcester kept their heads up. Dan Newton forced many short corners and Matt Hooper converted a penalty corner to equalise.

In the second-half, Gerry Ogle, York Senior and Hooper forced saves from the keeper.

Ogle eventually forced Worcester ahead and they stayed strong to ensure a deserved victory.

The fifths lost 3-2 at Edgbaston in their first West Midlands Premier game of 2008.

Worcester took the lead with a fine finish from Gareth Roberts but Edgbaston scored twice before the break to lead 2-1.
