UPTON seconds staged a fine second-half comeback to beat Bromyard 28-17.
The home side found it difficult to contain the strong Bromyard team and made hard work of the first 40 minutes, trailing 17-7 at the interval.
A few harsh words from the coaches at the break saw a different-looking Upton side start the second-half.
With self belief restored, Upton started exerting pressure on the visitors. Home fly-half Chris O'Neil took the initiative to score a superb solo effort from 50 metres out, which he converted, and the game began to swing Upton's way.
Bromyard started to give away penalties and scrum-half Richard Mills took advantage from 10 metres out to score in the corner. O'Neil converted again.
The impressive O'Neil then grabbed his second try and added the extras once more.
Bromyard's scrum-half was sin-binned for continued illegal disruption at the rucks.
From being 10 points down, Upton's fightback saw them 11 points in the lead.
Bromyard, never a side to lie down and give up the cause, were true to their reputation and the last 10 minutes saw them hammering away at the Upton line. Only a resolute defence and some strong tackling saw the home side keep their line in tact.
When the referee blew the final whistle, the Upton players were relieved to have picked up the win before the encroaching flood waters had reached their pitch.
