CUTNALL Green and Droitwich A' both opened their Worcestershire Cricket Board Indoor League Sunday Division season with victories.
Green saw off local rivals Avoncroft by four wickets, while the Spa side cruised to a 66-run victory over the inexperienced Nomads Academy.
Jon Bird was bowled by Chris Higgins (2-22) for 26, Paul Athey was run out for the same score and Mark Whitehead added 17 as Avoncroft posted 84-6.
In reply, Cutnall Green's Derek Higgins and Neil Fletcher took the score steadily to 74, before the latter reached 26no and retired. Higgins then made it to 25no and also had to retire.
Neil Evans joined Paul Hutchins and they saw Green home with nine balls to spare.
For Droitwich A', Paul Bryan and Jerome Connor took the score to 70 before Bryan was run out for a solid 23. Steve Walsh then made 20 before also being run out. Mike Rogers was unbeaten on 15 as Droitwich posted a competitive total of 128-3.
Nomads' hard-hitting opener Jamie Smith ran himself out for 18 and the academy side never recovered, slumping to 62-6 as Bryan (2-10) and Karl Goddard (1-17) took the wickets.
In the Monday division, the Fossils edged past Colwall by just two wickets in an exciting match.
Colwall batted first and their openers Thomas Chappel and Thomas Coleman put on 34. Chappel went on to score a creditable 47 not out from just 25 balls, while Sam Crichard played excellently for his 34 not out in Colwall's total of 117-4.
Martin Woodward (1-29) and Jeff Barnes (1-30) were the pick of the Fossils' bowlers.
Woodward and Tony Williams got the Fossils off to a good start, putting on 57 before the former had to retire.
Bob Briscoe and Bob Rogers then added 26 runs from 12 balls before Rogers retired on 25.
Good bowling by Chappel, however, saw the Fossils restricted to just two runs of the 10th over.
Rogers returned to the crease to join Woodward and the two experienced veterans took only seven balls to score the 18 runs required to secure the win for the Fossils with five balls to spare.
The innings closed with Woodward unbeaten on 31 and Rogers 36no.
